What is Ottocento?

Ottocento is a decorative effect paint that has been developed to create a silky, vibrant surface with soft reflections. It is part of OIKOS' ecological product range, completely free of solvents, formaldehyde or harmful emissions.

The surface can resemble antique fabric, soft velvet or a subdued sheen, depending on how the paint is applied and how the light hits the surface. It creates a vibrant and harmonious look in both homes and public spaces.

Ottocento Antico Velluto

Ottocento Antico Velluto is perfect for modern interiors where you want to emphasize comfort and aesthetics at the same time. It works well in both classic and modern style environments, bringing a harmonious and warm atmosphere to the room. The surface is visually beautiful and pleasant to the touch.

This elegant and subtle finishing solution embodies refined taste and understated luxury, and it allows for the implementation of a wide range of creative interior design ideas.

How to apply Ottocento Antico Velluto

• ANTICO VELLUTO: Apply OTTOCENTO unevenly with a medium sizedstainless steel spatula, until the entire surface is covered. Before the effect paint dries, treat the surface once more with the same spatula to achieve the desired two-tone velvety effect. The application technique does not cause problems with seams or joints, as OTTOCENTO smooths and blends well between areas when pressed carefully.

• Coverage: 7–9 m²/l

•VERTICALE / DIAGONALE:

Apply Ottocento in vertical or diagonal stripes with a medium-sized stainless steel with a steel trowel until the surface is completely covered. Without letting the surface dry, re-apply in the same direction as the application to achieve the desired geometric effect. This technique also does not create visible seams, as Ottocento blends well between the different application areas.

• IMPERIALE / DAMASCO:

The Imperiale and Damasco techniques draw their inspiration from historical wallpapers from the 19th century and bring them into the modern era with sophisticated tonal variations and play of light. The end result is a decorative yet understated, classic shape combined with a modern flair.

The work begins by applying two coats of tinted Supercolor primer, which is thinned 40–50% with water and applied with a roller or brush. The first coat is allowed to dry completely before the second. Then apply Ottocento, diluted 50% with water, with a short-pile roller.

Once the surface is completely dry, the actual textured finish is created either with the IMPERIALE technique, using a wide leather pad for decorative coatings, or with the DAMASCO version, using a natural sponge for special effects for a soft and lively effect. The finish is done with tinted Supercolor-paint (same shade as the base) which is thinned 70–80% with water and gently pressed onto the wall.

The result is a wall surface that looks almost like fabric, lightly textured, light-reflecting and elegant. This style works particularly well in spaces where you want to emphasize the dignity of the space or create a soft and subtly decorated impression, such as in restaurants, bedrooms or reception areas.

• LE TAPPEZZERIE:

Apply Ottocento diluted 50% with water, with a short-haired roller in two coats. Let the first coat dry for 6-8 hours before applying the second coat. Once the surface is completely dry, you can apply the LE TAPPEZZERIE decorative treatment. Use a special tool and apply Supercolorpaint (same shade as the base) diluted 70-80% with water.

• TURANDOT EFFETTO CANAPA:

This elegant application technique combines a soft texture with a subdued sheen, the result is reminiscent of a starry sky with small glitter dots twinkling on the surface. TURANDOT Effetto Canapa creates a sophisticated and modern surface, suitable for both private homes and public spaces where you want to emphasize the aesthetics and depth of the walls.

The application is done with a paint brush Pennello Spanga, after which the surface is finished with a pattern comb Pettine In Gomma creating parallel lines. This creates a subtle texture and velvety feel that changes depending on the lighting.

When the base is dry, continue with the topcoat using the ready-made Ottocento coating, which does not need to be diluted. Ultrasaten is diluted with water by 20–25%, while Ottocento is ready to use as is.

The crisscross pattern is created when the first layer has dried, and a second layer is applied on top of it using the same technique, but crisscrossed.

•Coverage: 2–3 m²/l

• RIGOLETTO:

The Rigoletto technique creates a calm and rhythmic look where vertical lines give the wall a soft structure. Tinted Ultrasaten Opaco (matte) paint is used as a base coat, which is applied by roller or by brush two times. When the base is completely dry, apply Ottocento as a top coat, which has been thinned with approximately 40% water. The coating is applied in narrow vertical areas with a brush (Paintbrush Pennello Spanga).

Immediately after application, the surface is brushed With an effect brush to create parallel, clear lines. All brush strokes are made in the same direction, and the brush is held perpendicular to the wall. The brush is frequently cleaned of excess material to maintain the pattern and good shape of the bristles. When the entire wall has been treated, a second coat is applied in the same way.

This technique creates a restrained and refined surface that especially suitable for classically harmonious spaces but also works well in modern interiors when you want a soft rhythm on the wall surface.

•Coverage: 9–11 m²/l

• DESDEMONA:

The Desdemona effect imitates a loose, slightly rough-looking fabric, as if a light gauze had been applied to the wall. The surface appearance is delicate and airy, but at the same time clearly distinguished by its beautiful pearly reflection. This finish is particularly suitable for classic interiors that you want to bring into the modern era with subtle, light-reactive details.

The work begins by applying Ultrasaten Opaco (matte) primer in the desired shade. It is diluted 20 - 25% with water and applied to the wall with a roller or brush in two coats. When the surface is completely dry, apply Ottocento as is, without dilution, with a Spanish brush (Paintbrush Pennello Spanga). The paint is drawn onto the wall in vertical, narrow stripes.

Immediately on the wet surface, use the tool: special brush for textured surfaces, with which you gently draw parallel stripes. This creates a clear, woven-like structure that brings rhythm and movement to the wall surface. The tool is cleaned of excess material after each stroke to ensure that the pattern remains even and precise.

If you want a stronger, grid-like effect, let the first layer of Ottocento dry completely. Then apply a second layer using the same method, but in a criss-cross direction. This creates a multidimensional, textile-like surface that comes to life in the light.

• CARMEN:

The Carmen effect brings a subtle and captivating visual rhythm to the wall, reminiscent of the undulating surface of moiré velvet. The alternation of light and shadow emphasizes the undulating movement of the surface and creates an elegant contrast between matte and glossy. The end result is understated yet expressive, a suitable choice for spaces that want to combine timeless style with modern structure.

The base is Ultrasaten Opacoa (matte) in a suitable shade, which is thinned 20–25% with water and applied in two coats by roller or by brush. When the base coat is completely dry, apply Ottocento undiluted with a Spanish brush to an area of ​​approximately 50×50 cm at a time.

Immediately after that, the surface is treated with horizontal strokes a wood texture pattern tool, i.e. a wood imitation tool that creates a moiré-like pattern. The tool must be cleaned of excess material frequently to keep the pattern clear and even. In this way, one area at a time is worked until the entire wall surface has been treated.

• SETA STELLATA:

The Seta Stellata effect brings a sophisticated lightness and silky surface to the wall, with a pearlescent sheen that reflects the light. The special feature of the effect is its subtle yet lively structure, reminiscent of classic silk with a modern touch. When Decorglitter is added to the paint, the wall takes on a calmly shimmering starry nebula-like effect, which makes the surface look unique and luxurious.

The base coat is Ultrasaten Opaco (matte) in a suitable shade, diluted 20–25% with water and applied in two coats by rollerorby brush. Once the surface is completely dry, apply Ottocento, thinned 20% with water, evenly over the entire surface using a paintbrush Pennello Spagna, covering the entire surface.

After this, the same paint brush Pennello, with its extra soft bristles, is used, without the paint having to go through the damp surface again, so the structure stands out beautifully and the finished result is created.

If desired Decorglitter glitter is added directly to Ottocento (1 pack/litre), which gives the surface a subtle star-like sparkle that is accentuated from different viewing angles.
